The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
